This series consists of video recordings and motion picture films documenting activities of the Centers for Disease Control. The programs include lectures, programs created for television, and laboratory scenes. A significant amount of the material deals with advances in laboratory instrumentation, as well as procedures in immunotherapy, mycobacteriology (the study of a germ responsible for lung infections), epidemiology, fluoridation, AIDS and HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, and smallpox. Other subjects include the history of the Centers for Disease Control, lab safety, spectrophotometry, and quality control in laboratories.

Antonia Coello Novello, M.D., (b. August 23, 1944, Fajardo, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican physician and public health administrator. She was a vice admiral in the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and served as fourteenth Surgeon General of the United States from 1990 to 1993.
